Compensation for Surrogacy
Learn More About the Benefits and Pay for a Gestational Carrier
Becoming a Surrogate Mother, or Gestational Carrier, is about more than money — it's an opportunity to help Intended Parents experience the joys of having a child. At the Center for Surrogacy & Egg Donation, we value your time and commitment to making someone's dream of starting a family come true. That's why we're proud to offer our Surrogates some of the highest compensation available in the country.
Below, you can learn more about Surrogacy compensation, what is included in your pay and a compensation timeline.
What Is Gestational Carrier Compensation?
The gift of a child is priceless, and we believe that Surrogates should be valued for their desire to help others. Surrogate compensation is a fee paid to Gestational Carriers for their time away from their family, changes to their body and other demands and risks of pregnancy as they selflessly carry a baby for Intended Parents.
At the Center for Surrogacy & Egg Donation (CSED), we know that every Surrogacy is unique. Our Surrogacy compensation and benefits are designed to address all your needs throughout the Surrogacy process — even before pregnancy begins.
Our Gestational Carrier compensation includes:
- Base fee: Your base fee is monthly payments starting from confirmation of pregnancy to delivery of the child — before anyadditional compensation is added.
- Monthly allowance: Once you sign the Gestational Carrier Agreement with the Intended Parents, you'll receive a monthly stipend to cover local travel and other incidental expenses.
- Expense benefits: Intended Parents cover all medical, travel and other expenses, such as maternity clothing and household support.
- Contingent fees: Your benefits package is tailored to the unique events of your Surrogacy. This means you could receive extra compensation for such events as twin pregnancies, C-sections and additional procedures.
We Provide Clear and Transparent Surrogacy Compensation
Evaluating Surrogacy Agencies can be stressful and confusing. Some agencies are not clear about what your compensation will ultimately be. It is important to clarify whether certain payments and benefits are in addition to, or deducted from, your base fee.
At the Center for Surrogacy & Egg Donation, our Surrogacy compensation is designed to support the unique needs of the individual Surrogate. We believe:
- Surrogates from any Surrogate-friendly states have a right to the same compensation as Surrogates in “high-demand” states.
- Surrogates should have input in determining their compensation and benefits.
- Surrogates should be compensated for the time and effort they spend on the process, whether before becoming pregnant or after pregnancy

Your Base Gestational Carrier Pay
Our Surrogate compensation starts with a base fee — the amount you receive before any other benefits, reimbursements or payments are added.
Base fees for first-time Surrogates at the Center for Surrogacy & Egg Donation are $63,000 or $68,000:
$68,000 if you have an approved health insurance policy, $63,000 if we need to purchase health insurance to cover the Surrogate pregnancy
Keep in mind that this is only your base fee. We cover all medical, travel and other expenses. You will also receive additional benefits as outlined below.

Base Fee Payment Timeline
Your total base fee consists of both pre-pregnancy and post-confirmation of pregnancy payments.
Pre-Pregnancy Payments
Here's when you can expect to receive the base fee and monthly allowance payments before pregnancy is officially confirmed:
- $1,500 when you successfully complete medical screening and are approved by the IVF clinic
- $500 when you start IVF medications
- $2,000 when you complete the embryo transfer
- $300 monthly allowance starting when you sign the Gestational Carrier Agreement (continuing until the month of delivery)
Total Pre-pregnancy payments of $4,600
Post Confirmation of Pregnancy Payments
Once pregnancy is confirmed, here's how the remainder of your base fee is distributed:
- $1,000 when pregnancy is confirmed by a visible heartbeat via ultrasound
- The remaining balance of your Base Fee will be divided into 8 equal monthly payments over the next 8 months of your pregnancy
Additional Compensation
As a Surrogate with the Center for Surrogacy & Egg Donation, you will also receive additional compensation that is added to your base fee and consists of:
- $300 monthly allowance beginning when you sign the Gestational Carrier Agreement with the Intended Parents (typically 12 monthly allowance payments for a total of $3,600).
- $1,000 maternity clothing allowance to purchase maternity clothes for the Surrogate pregnancy
- $100 a week in household support for the last four weeks of pregnancy (for a total of $400)

Travel Expenses
Any travel needed to get to and from the IVF Clinic for the screening appointment and embryo transfer will be paid for by the Intended Parents. This can include:
